Event description

Noelle Oke’s book Faith and Learning: the First 125 Years, chronicles the history of The Scots School Albury from its humble beginnings in 1866. The 300-plus pages of photographs, reproductions of memorabilia and narrative based on hundreds of hours of interviews have been collated into this wonderful encyclopedia of familiar and new stories about school life and culture.

Noelle began her long association with Scots through her children before joining the School as a member of the School Council and then on staff as Director of Development. Eventually she became the School’s honorary Archivist. Early In her role of Archivist, Noelle realised what a treasure trove of information the School had in its archives and eventually set about researching and writing the full history.

“From its beginning as a small parochial school in 1866, The Scots School Albury’s history is an important and integral part of the story of the found and development of the border region. Pursuing a philosophy of Education as a path to the future for over 150 years, through rural boom and recession, world wars, droughts, splendid achievements and challenging times, the current school now stands as a symbol of faith-based learning, and evidence of the school community’s determination and success. The School has been a wellspring of alumni who enrich their many communities and the nation: it will continue to offer children the means to navigate their future for generations to come.”
