• What exactly is a College Admissions Case Study?

  It is an interactive event where parents and high school students act as an admissions committee. Led by real college representatives, you will review mock applications in small groups and decide who gets admitted, waitlisted, or denied. It provides an eye-opening, behind-the-scenes look at how colleges make their decisions.

• Is there a cost to attend the Case Study?

  No, the event is completely free! However, because space is strictly limited, you must secure a ticket in advance to attend.

• How long does the event last?

  The event will last approximately 2.5 hours. Please plan to arrive 15 minutes early so we can check tickets and get everyone sorted into their assigned groups on time.

• Do I get to pick which rep I am with?

  No, participants are randomly assigned to a case study group. Because this is an educational exercise and not a traditional college fair, you cannot switch groups to be with a specific university. There are no exceptions. Families are often in different groups as well. This is actually benefit because you can compare your experiences.

• I am not in high school yet - can I come?

  We applaud your eagerness - but we limit student attendance to grades 9-12 to make sure that students in high school have access to this limited event.

  This event is strictly for high school students and their parents who attend North Tahoe HS, Truckee HS, Coldstream/Sierra HS, Sugar Bowl Academy, Tahoe Expedition Academy, and Incline High School. Students in grades K-8 are not permitted and should wait until they are in high school to attend.

• If I cannot make this - is there another event I can attend?

  This particular event is held every other fall. So the next scheduled case study will be in the fall of 2028.

  We will be looking into ways to potentially record the event for digital participation, but this event type is usually best in person.

  Truckee High School hosts a community College Fair each fall. This is another way to engage with colleges.

• My plans changed - what do I do if I cannot make the Case Study?

  We understand weekends are busy and schedules are packed. If you registered and can no longer attend, we do appreciate you cancelling your registration. We often have a waitlist leading up to the event so letting us know you cannot attend helps us make sure everyone has a chance to get this great info.

• Do I need to register, or can I get a ticket at the door?

  Pre-registration is required, and every individual participant (both students and parents) must register for their own ticket with their own name. You cannot get a ticket at the door. Please do not show up without a confirmed ticket, as you will not be admitted.

• The event is sold out. What should I do?

  Please join the digital waitlist! Ticket allotments are based on school size, and we often release additional tickets as the event approaches. If a ticket becomes available, you will receive an email notification with instructions on how to claim it.

• How do I prepare for the event?

  Before arriving, you must download and read the PDF Applicant Packet. This packet contains the mock applications you will be reviewing during the event. The updated packet will be available soon.

• Will Spanish translation be available? / ¿Habrá traducción al español?

  We are actively working on securing Spanish translation for this year's event. We will update our attendees as soon as it is confirmed. (Estamos trabajando activamente para ofrecer traducción al español en el evento de este año. Actualizaremos a los asistentes tan pronto como se confirme).

• Can I talk to the reps after the event is over?

  The reps will be headed out to a dinner date immediately following the event, but their contact information is available.
