The concert opens in spectacular fashion with the musical fireworks of Paganini's virtuosic Violin Concerto No. 1, performed by international Menuhin Competition winner and AdYO alum Tianyou Ma. Don't miss this special opportunity to hear one of the world's top soloists back where it all began!

After interval, hear a fresh, vibrant performance of Tchaikovsky's heroic Fifth Symphony, where AdYO's youthful energy combines with Nicholas Braithwaite's seasoned leadership to create a symphonic journey that spans from delicate introspection to triumphant grandeur.

Tianyou Ma, violin

Tianyou has been a top prize winner in numerous international competitions, including the Menuhin Violin Competition in 2018 (where he was also the recipient of the Bach Prize), the Postacchini Competition in 2015, the Eisteddfod string competition in 2010, and the International Summer Academy of the MDW string competition in 2018.

His music playing has been broadcast on the online Strad magazine, BBC 3 radio, and OE1 radio in Vienna. Tianyou has performed as soloist with orchestras including the Webern Kammerphilharmonie, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Doctors' Orchestra, Yehudi Menuhin School Orchestra, Stuttgart Chamber Orchestra, and Adelaide Youth Orchestra in Australia. He has performed as soloist in many countries in Europe, Asia, the USA, and Oceana.

Tianyou is currently completing his Masters degree with Catherine Cho at the Juilliard School in New York City.

Each year Adelaide Youth Orchestras (AdYO) provides excellent music education programs and career pathways for South Australia’s brightest young musicians. AdYO services and supports 300 young musicians participating each week during school terms across five orchestras (Youth Orchestra, Symphonic Winds, Wind Orchestra, Sinfonia, and Junior Strings), an exciting Percussion Ensemble, and smaller chamber groups. Over the past 22 years, AdYO has supported more than 2000 emerging young musicians to engage with our programs.
