Fanny's Nelson Last Sunday Jazz Series - Django Junkies
Description
Fanny's Nelson are starting a Jazz Series on the Last Sunday of the Month.
September's Jazz Band is Django Junkies, performing gypsy jazz.
Violinist Stephane Grappelly along with the Belgian guitarist Django Reinhardt were the two soloists in the famous "Quintet of the Hot Club of France". This group played what has become known as Gypsy Jazz, and dominated the musical scene in concert venues and dance halls in Paris prior to, during, and after WW2.
Django's musical influence has been cited by such diverse artists as George Harrison, Jimi Hendrix, B.B. King and classical guitarist Julian Bream.
In this setting at Fanny's Nelson, with accordion, mandolin and guitar, you will hear some of the Hot Club's classic tunes, along with a couple of musette waltzes, some originals, blues, and standards from the American songbook, all played in the spirit of the style which dominated the European musical scene for over two decades.
