Event description

Do a deep dive into local food production and vegetable fermenting with Patrick Meaney (Farm to Ferment) & growers, James McLennan (Farm My School), Riona Seehusen (Bellagreen Organic Farm) & Cameron Matthews (Bellarine Fungi).

Meet our three local growers & tour their farms, harvesting as you go, to finish the session by creating a jar of vegetable ferment with ferment connoisseur, Patrick Meaney - Farm to Ferment.

Starting in the vegetable beds at Farm My School, James McLennan will share their work connecting the school community with local food production.

From there experience the wonder of walking through the Basin Reserve, a precious patch of bush, and a significant site for Wadawurrung people, with Bellarine Landcare.

Then a short walk to Bellagreen & Bellarine Fungi. Riona Seehusen will guide you through this no-dig market garden & you can harvest more vegetables for your ferment. Cameron Matthews grows mushrooms here, and you’ll be blown away by the magic of fungi.

And finally, Patrick Meaney will guide you through an hour long 'basics of fermenting' workshop, exploring the fundamentals of fruit & vegetable transformation. Spice up your ferment with Shire House Farm produce.

This will be an intimate experience with 20 participants per group. Usually valued at $130 per ticket, a discount is being given on each ticket via Bellarine Landcare's Victorian Landcare Grant.

Share in a vegetarian lunch made from produce from the gardens and Ket Baker bread. Vegan and GF catered for.

Further produce can be purchased on the day.

Take home the delicious jar of ferment you’ve prepared, along with a punnet mushrooms from Bellarine Fungi.

Bring along an empty clean jar 300mls - 500mls to use for your ferment. Some spare jars will also be available.

Please wear clothes for the conditions, including a hat, and bring your own water bottle.
