Farm Walk & Talk - Doon Doon Farm
Event description
Join Tweed Shire Council's Sustainable Agriculture Program as we walk and talk our way across the Gilliland's cattle farm at Doon Doon. Come and hear from some of the Tweed’s most experienced and respected livestock producers as they talk about their farm journey, and how they have responded to recent challenges with fires, floods and pasture dieback.
Expertise from North Coast Local Land Services and Southern Cross University will be on hand to provide the latest advice on pasture dieback management and the results of local trials investigating the resistance of different pasture species to dieback.
The Gilliland’s received a Tweed Shire Council Sustainable Agriculture Small Grant in 2024 to trial the use of a drone to seed difficult hillslope country severely impacted by pasture dieback. The trial outcomes will be discussed on the day.
The day also provides an opportunity to network with other farmers and staff from Council’s Sustainable Agriculture Program.
A morning tea of local produce will be provided on arrival.
Please no dogs or other pets – this is a working farm.
Please follow simple biosecurity measures such as clean clothing and footwear and make sure your vehicle is free of foreign materials and seed before entering the property.
Tweed Shire Council's Farm Walk & Talks typically occur on the first Thursday of every month. For a few hours each month we showcase a local farm and the sustainability initiatives and environmental challenges that the landholders are tackling.
So join us for a chance to network with other farmers and find out about some of the great projects and innovations that local farmers are embarking on.
