Farming Fundamentals Armidale Session 7: Ill thrift and itch: What's bugging your stock?

Northern Tablelands Local Land Service Farming Fundamentals will cover livestock ill thrift, parasites, pink eye, and pestivirus for improved animal health and farm management.

Northern Tablelands Local Land Services is delivering a new Farming Fundamentals Workshop Series, designed to build practical knowledge and confidence in core farm management.

The seventh workshop, held in Armidale on Wednesday 18th November 2026, will focus on ill thrift in livestock and some common conditions that cause external signs in animals, often in association with ill thrift. Such conditions include afflictions associated with external parasites such as lice, mites and ticks. Pink eye will also be covered as it is a common cause of irritation in livestock. Pestivirus will also be discussed in detail as it is a common underlying cause of ill thrift.

These workshops are ideal for landholders, livestock producers and those new to farming who want to strengthen their understanding of animal health, biosecurity and livestock management.

Participants will gain practical knowledge on:

• Causes of ill thrift in livestock

• Common external parasites in livestock

• The lifecycle of external parasites to understand how treatments work and how to prevent the occurrence of these parasites on farm

• Pink eye causes and management

• Pestivirus and it’s impact on cattle and sheep.

• Dinner will be provided during the workshop

• Please register by Monday 16th November 2026

• This is a monthly series; however you do not have to have attended the first one to attend this workshop.
