How do we father wellness—in our bodies, in our homes, and in our communities?
There is always a seat at the table for you.
Join us 1 pm, Saturday, June 14 th at the Anacostia Arts Center for a powerful and necessary conversation centering the wellness journeys of Black men and fathers. This salon invites us to reimagine fatherhood as a vital source of healing, prevention, and care culture—rooted in ritual, routine, and community connection.
You’ll hear directly from Black men as they share:
Their personal visions for wellness and community
How their distrust of the medical system—often based on witnessing harm done to Black women—informs how they care for themselves and their families
The creative, resourceful ways they "father wellness" at home, especially when traditional systems fall short
Together, we’ll explore:
Strategies for preventive care and staying well
Wellness planning as a family practice
Routines, rituals, and activities fathers can do with their children
Pathways to connect with community organizations and local initiatives supporting the health of Black men and their families
This salon is not just about health—it’s about legacy. It’s about shifting how we define strength and leadership in the home and how we equip our communities to thrive.

About the CommuniTEA Salon Series
This immersive gathering blends meditation, tea, art, and conversation to create a space for deep reflection and collective wisdom. We begin with a guided meditation to quiet the mind and invite stillness, followed by a soothing tea ceremony to center the body. Through thoughtful discussion, we will explore how peace of mind is essential to building a thriving home and a strong community.
Inspired by the salons of the Harlem Renaissance, the soul gatherings of Combahee River Collective, the strategizing of The Colored Conventions, and the legacy of Black organizers using the home and community centers as places for transformation. This salon is a modern gathering rooted in history, wellness, and empowerment. Together, we will listen, share, and co-create a vision for a more mindful, peaceful and collectively beneficial future.
This event is made possible by the Valley Place Arts Collaborative, Carter Farms, and the Washington Area Community Investment Fund.
Event powered by the Family Arts Museum and MĀK Apothecary.
