This is an opportunity to learn directly from an internationally recognised researcher and practitioner, and consider how Caring Dads and child-centred accountability can strengthen responses to fathers who have used family violence.

Dr. Katreena Scott leads an applied research program focused on ending violence in family relationships, with specific expertise in addressing violence perpetration by men. She is internationally recognised for her research on empirically and ethically sound policies and practices for intervening with men who have used violence against their partners and/or children.

Dr. Scott holds the Tier I Canada Research Chair in Ending Child Abuse and Domestic Violence and is a leading international voice in the development of effective, child centred approaches to working with fathers who have used family violence. Caring Dads is an evidence-informed intervention that works with fathers to promote the safety and wellbeing of children and their mothers. The program has demonstrated independently verified outcomes through intervention studies conducted in Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia and the United States.

This session will bring together evidence based research and practical tools designed to strengthen how practitioners and systems engage with fathers who have used family violence.

Learn how using child centered approaches can help fathers recognise how domestic violence and emotional abuse affect their children, including impacts on children’s development, wellbeing and experiences of trauma.

Engaging Fathers with Intention

Conversations designed to engage men in empathetic yet firm discussions about their use of violence and its impact on their children and families.

Research to Practice

Explore how evidence-informed approaches can translate into meaningful practice with fathers, while maintaining a clear focus on the safety and wellbeing of children and their mothers.

This is a three hour session with registration from 8:30am with a 9am start with the session finishing at 12pm. There will be netoworking from 12pm to 12.30pm and a light morning tea provided.
