Event description

Fermentation Workshop

We’ve got a glut of radishes in our Permaculture garden and we’d love to share them — along with how we like to ferment and preserve them! This technique is easy to learn and transferable to all kinds of vegetables. A great way to preserve your harvest and turn it into gut-healing, probiotic-rich food.

This will be a casual and very hands on workshop containing all the basics you would need to know to put together a basic brine ferment. We would love for open conversation and dialougue around other types of fermentation and preservation techniques as our experience is widely ranged from Kombucha to Gluten free sourdough, kefir, saurkraut and the rest. If anyone has their own fermentation experience we'd love to hear about it and are encouraging skill sharing amongst the group. No experience is needed to attend the workshop.

We will start the workshop with a tour of a young food forest that we recently planted, then we will do a large harvest to get all of our ingredients from the garden. Next we will come back for some tea and go through a small presentation of the fermentation technique we will be working with, then will make the ferments together and explaining as we go.

Everyone will get to take home 2 x medium jars of fermented radishes.

We ask that everyone brings 2 x medium jars (500ml)to put your ferments into and that they are well washed/sterilized. Also if you can bring a knife and chopping board that would be great, if not we will have some that you can use.

Typically we pour boiling water into our jars after a hand/dishwasher wash to sterilize them, we reccommend you do the same, or your own sterilization method.

Get together with our Permaculture community to preserve the Harvest.
