1 - 3pm Dadirri - the Art of Deep Listening (Mullum Civic), with Ash Dargan, followed by Sound Healing with Yidaki
Ash will present a workshop on Deep Listening (Dadirri), an Aboriginal cultural practice of maintaining connectedness to the spirits of country, our ancestors, and our internal worlds. It is perhaps the worlds oldest known ongoing practice of mindfulness.
Miriam Rose Baumann, a Ngangikurungkurr senior elder from the Daly River region NT brought Dadirri to National attention in 1988. In her words, “When I experience Dadirri, I am made whole again. I can sit on the river bank or walk through the trees, I can find my
peace in this silent awareness… there is no need for words”.
Ash has spent years working with Aunty Miriam in both research and community focused education. Ash holds a Master of Indigenous Studies from Southern Cross University following the work of Dr. Judy Atkinson’s research and practice in trauma recovery, healing and social and emotional wellbeing. He is a senior national facilitator for We Al-li, a First Nations owned and operated organisation delivering training on culturally informed
therapeutic approaches to community health wellbeing across Australia.
4pm - 5.30pm Vocal Body Jam, with Murray Kyle
Join sacred song carrier Murray Kyle for this journey of expression using voice, body percussion, sounding and movement.
Together we will dive into the playfulness and the prayer of the human voice, as a bridge to all of life.
Discovering connectivity through our collective sound and song, using the most ancient instrument that we carry within.
We will play with harmonics, full body listening, vocal interpretation, toning, & collaborating with the great mystery.
No musical experience is needed to join, just a curious heart to work with the energy of the moment and open to the discovery of how sound can be a powerful friend and ally.
7pm Community Winter Solstice Ritual
As darkness settles, we come together to light candles and place them on our Earth Mandala, letting go of what does not serve us and making our intentions and prayers - a simple and powerful meditative ritual to unite us all and symbolise the returning of the light.
(The Earth Mandala will be returned to the Earth the following day after our event).
7.30 - 9.00pm World Music + Heart Song, with Amir Paiss, Avishai Barnatan, Murray Kyle, Ash Dargan, Gabriel Otu, Caroline Cowley, Mallika Des Fours and special guests
Nothing beats the profound yet simple joy of singing together for bridging cultures and uniting as one. Amir Paiss, world renowned musician and facilitatoir of connection through music song and self inquiry - together with a band of special guests and world musicians, will lead us in singing songs from different traditions.
