Figurative into Abstraction

A new class introducing approaches, exercises, and techniques of abstraction.

Working from drawings, paintings, and assisted images, learn to abstract through observation, experimentation, and expression.


What will be covered in this course?

Students will use their own drawings, paintings, and assisted images to abstract through observation, experimentation, exercises, and expression.

Color mixing, painterly ways, and deconstruction will be introduced in this lively, fun, and informative Workshop.

By the end of this course students will:

Have completed a series of studies from their own drawings and paintings while realising new ways of working through form, abstraction, and individual expression.


THIS CLASS IS FOR: Adults

Participants from Life Drawing Classes, and those who’d like to develop their own practice exploring approaches to abstraction from the figurative. 

Beginners to the more advanced. 


LOCATION: Woolgoolga Gallery 73 Turon Parade Woolgoolga

TIME: Tuesday 9.30 am – 12.30 pm

DURATION: 5 weeks

REQUIRED MATERIALS

  • Sketch book

  • Canvas boards/Canvas

  • Jars

  • Rags

  • Series of inexpensive brushes large to small

  • Graphite pencils

  • Inks

  • Acrylic Paints (Artist Quality where possible for a great limited palette!) carbon black, titanium white, mid red, mid yellow, ultra marine blue.


ABOUT THE TUTOR

Bernadette Trela is a Practicing Artist/Arts Educator with over 30yrs experience in the arts, academia, and teaching. She has worked and studied extensively in Sydney at all the major art schools, including NAS, WWAS and ArtEst, AGNSW, and private art galleries. Her work has been included in the Salon Des Refuse, Greenaway Art Prize, Paddington Art Prize and JADA, and she is a Winner of the Waverley Art Prize and Northbridge Art Prize.
