Event description

In the war of 1948 hundreds of Palestinian villages were ethnically cleansed. Israelis call it 'The War of Independence. Palestinians call it the 'Nakba"'. This award winning Israeli documentary about one erased seaside village -Tantura- re-examines what happened by those who remember and those who want to forget, and explores how the country's founding myth has shaped reality for generations.

Join us for a rare look at Israeli society's first-generation and through archival footage from the war of 1948, alongside intimate interviews with ex-Israeli soldiers, Palestinian residents, and historians.

An open community conversation will follow to explore the relationship between stories and culture, how our understanding of our past shapes our present society and what it means to reckon with the dark chapters of our history, as settlers living on stolen land.

PRESENTED BY PORT PHILLIP FOR PALESTINE and LOUD JEW COLLECTIVE
