Event description

Join local filmmakers Kim Ingles and Julia Lörsch, creators of Sunshine Coast films The Oyster Gardener and The Art Side of the Moon for a fun and creative Digital Storytelling Workshop designed especially for kids aged 10 and up. In this hands-on workshop, participants will learn how to plan, film, and edit short videos using accessible tools like smartphones or tablets. Along the way, they’ll explore what makes a great story, how to bring their ideas to life on screen, and how to share their voice with the world.

Whether it's a story about a personal experience, a favourite place, an imaginary adventure or a message about something they care about — this workshop will help them shape their ideas into engaging, shareable video stories. They'll also get to try their hand at filming interviews, capturing creative footage, and experimenting with simple editing techniques.

This workshop is perfect for curious, creative kids who love making videos, telling stories, or trying something new. No previous experience is needed — just a device (smartphone or tablet), a sense of curiosity, and a big imagination!

What to expect:

  • Learn the basics of storytelling structure and how to plan a short video

  • Use your phone or tablet to film interviews and creative footage

  • Try out beginner-friendly video editing tools

  • Share your story with others in a fun and supportive environment

Whether they're budding filmmakers or just love creative projects, this workshop is a chance for kids to build confidence, digital skills, and storytelling know-how — all while having fun.

What you'll need:

Each child will require a device (smartphone or tablet) with free editing app Kinemaster loaded onto it, and a set of headphones/earbuds to use for editing. If you don’t have a device for your child, please let us know with a comment at your ticket purchase, and we can provide a device for hire. We also ask that each child come with their own drink bottle. Some snacks will be provided.
