Pipe Dreams, Fractured Lives - Film & Info night
Event description
The Ugly Truth Revealed.
As coal seam gas mining encroaches further onto the treasured prime agricultural land of the Darling
Downs, threatening our highly fertile soils and precious groundwater, this event offers an important
and unique opportunity to gain valuable insights into the impacts of unconventional gas mining both
in the USA and Queensland.
Join us for a special screening of Pipe Dreams: Fractured Lives – a powerful documentary by South
Australian farmer David Smith who, alongside his community, courageously fought and succeeded in
keeping unconventional gas mining from their pristine farmland on the Limestone Coast.
In the film you will hear the compelling stories of everyday people, from the USA and Australia,
telling their first-hand experiences about the onshore gas industry and its devastating impacts on
their lives and livelihoods, as well as commentary from scientists and international experts.
Join David and others for an engaging Q&A session after the film.
Why come along
Expanding coal seam gas mining on the Condamine Floodplain food bowl will cause this unique and
top-quality farmland to subside (sink), risking detrimental consequences on our ongoing agricultural
production. But this is not something that affects farmers alone, this industry will also impact the
wider community as it risks causing devastating impacts on our shared groundwater resources,
including the priceless Condamine Alluvium, which supplies so many residents and communities in
our region.
This is chance to connect with your community, learn from others’ experiences, and collaborate to
protect the long-term security of our region’s food and water resources.
