Overview

Annual reporting is an important responsibility for all registered charities in New Zealand, including those serving Chinese communities. This workshop will provide a clear and simple explanation of how annual reporting works under New Zealand law, with a focus on making the process understandable and manageable for Chinese-speaking organisations.

Experienced charities advisor Sarah Doherty will guide participants through the essentials of what needs to be reported, how to do it correctly, and why it matters. She is joined by Eva Chen, who will provide translation support and help ensure all questions are clearly answered.

Key Takeaways

  • Understand the legal obligations around annual reporting for charities in Aotearoa.

  • Learn what information is required and how to prepare your report correctly.

  • Get clarity on who is responsible for the report and who it is submitted to.

  • Gain confidence in meeting compliance requirements without confusion.

  • Ask questions in a supportive setting, with language support provided.

Why Attend?

Many Chinese community charities want to do the right thing but find annual reporting confusing or difficult. This workshop is designed to make it easier. You’ll leave with the confidence to meet your obligations—and the knowledge to support others in your group to do the same.

Who Should Attend?

  • Committee members and trustees of Chinese-led or Chinese-serving registered charities

  • Treasurers, administrators, and volunteer coordinators responsible for reporting

  • Anyone new to charity compliance in New Zealand

  • Community leaders who want to better understand reporting in a bilingual setting

  • This session is especially relevant for Chinese NFPs, community groups, and individuals—but anyone working in or with diverse communities is welcome to join.
