Financial Resilience and Scenario Planning for Not-for-Profits Masterclass

Tasmania’s not-for-profit and community services industry is operating in an increasingly uncertain financial environment.

Led by Anna Collet, Director of Purpose Accounting, this practical online Masterclass will help not-for-profit leaders understand their financial exposure, plan for different funding and operating scenarios, establish decision triggers and consider realistic response options.

TasCOSS will set the scene with an overview of the current Tasmanian environment and key findings from the Community Services Industry Sustainability Pulse Check.

What we will cover:

• The Tasmanian context — the funding environment, government policy and other pressures shaping the outlook for not-for-profit organisations.

• What the industry is telling us — key findings and themes from pulse check.

• Understanding financial uncertainty and exposure — funding reductions or delays, rising costs, revenue concentration, reserves, cash flow and critical service commitments.

• Developing financial scenarios — identifying priority services, building base-case and worst-case scenarios and testing impacts on finances, staffing and services.

• Establishing decision triggers — setting financial thresholds and early warning indicators to support timely board and management decisions.

• Considering response options — controlled contraction, cost savings, service redesign, restructuring, collaboration and income diversification.

• Monitoring and adapting — regularly reviewing plans as funding, costs and operating conditions change.

By the end of this Masterclass, participants will:

• Better understand the financial and operating pressures facing Tasmania’s not-for-profit industry.

• Be able to identify key areas of financial exposure within their organisation.

• Have a practical framework for developing and testing financial scenarios.

• Be able to establish financial thresholds and early warning indicators.
