    Event description

It’s essential to find the right team for your build or renovation, yet it can be quite tricky to find people who share your sustainability goals. In this session, we’ll
offer guidance on how to select a team in your area that will guide your vision to life. In the second half of this session we’ll open up a panel discussion and Q&A session.

Please note that this session will start at 6:30pm (AEDT) and end between 8 - 8:30pm (AEDT), depending on audience questions. The session will be recorded and sent out to registered participants.

    Speakers

    Dick Clarke, Envirotecture

Dick Clarke is the president of Renew and the principal of Envirotecture. He is an Accredited Building Designer with over 35 years experience, focusing exclusively on ecologically sustainable and culturally appropriate buildings, as well as sustainable design in vehicles and vessels, and has received many Design Awards.

He holds a Master of Sustainable Futures degree (by research at the Institute for Sustainable Futures, UTS), on the topic of the effect of state and local planning instruments on the sustainability of the built environment.

Dick holds Building Designer Accreditation (No. 6029) under the Building Designer Accreditation (NSW) scheme. He is Director of Sustainability, and Past President of the NSW Chapter, of Building Designers Australia (BDA). He is a Past President and Board Member of the Association of Building Sustainability Assessors (ABSA).

    Iain Wiebenga, Keystone Construction

Iain is a registered builder and Greensmart Professional, with over 15 years of experience in construction. He’s passionate about environmentally responsible design and building strong, beautiful and durable houses using locally sourced materials.

Iain and his family — his beautiful wife Ange, their two girls Aspen and Revi and Luna the wonder doggo — live in the peaceful little town of Moriac, in the heart of the Surf Coast hinterland.

Iain loves working with sustainable materials, particularly rammed earth, and this is reflected in the core values of Keystone, and in the carefully considered home that he’s recently built for his young family.

    Simone Schenkel, Gruen Eco Design

Simone is a certified Passive House designer and the founder at Gruen Eco Design, whose mission is to make energy efficient spaces a staple in the Australian landscape. Everyone should have the right to live and work comfortably without costing the earth!

She has used the passion, experience and knowledge she gained from her upbringing and architectural studies in Germany to create Gruen Eco Design. A business where she works with her clients to create not only beautifully designed homes that won’t cost the earth. But also spaces that are healthy, thermally comfortable, energy efficient and resilient for future generations.

Simone loves making the world a better place by improving the way houses are built. And helping others to live a more sustainable life.

    Host - Anna Cumming

Anna Cumming is a writer and editor who has held a variety of communications roles at Renew since 2010. In 2019 she took over as Managing Editor of 'Sanctuary: modern green homes' - Australia's premier magazine dedicated to sustainable house design. She loves being part of the mission to inspire and educate people about the design strategies, materials and systems available to achieve truly sustainable, delightful homes.
