Description

About this event

When Covid-19 hit, Bristol's community food organisations stepped up. They coordinated food distribution, supported the most vulnerable and filled critical gaps that existing structures and processes couldn't. But they did so under enormous pressure, with little support and at great personal cost to the people involved.

What can we learn from that experience – and how do we make sure we're better prepared next time?

The report and policy brief from the Food Disaster Risk Planning Project (2023-2026) are soon to be published. The project is a collaboration between Bristol Food Network, Feeding Bristol, the University of Bristol, and the University of the West of England. Over three years, we conducted interviews and workshops with community food organisations, local groups, Bristol City Council, councillors, policymakers and other decision-makers to understand what happened, what worked and what needs to change.

Join us to hear our key findings and recommendations, ask questions and be part of the conversation about what comes next.

This event is open to all. Whether you took part in the research, work in emergency planning, food systems or community resilience, or are simply new to this work, we'd love to see you there.

Format: 30-minute presentation followed by Q&A (up to one hour)
