    Event description

Fire Circle Series 4 featuring Boonwurrung Elder N’arweet Dr Carolyn Briggs AM

What purpose do we bring when we enter the lands and seas of a First Nations community?

What commitments do we make to honour the sacred laws of that place and to honour the paths of our own ancestors?

And how can we work together across cultures through our lives and work, in partnership with our Earth?

Our fourth Fire Circle series will feature Elder N’arweet Carolyn Briggs, a Boonwurrung Yaluk-ut Weelam Elder from Melbourne, Australia.

Aunty Carolyn is a prolific leader with a unique ability to combine the traditional knowledge of her ancestors with contemporary storytelling technology, which is expressed through her recently completed PhD and work through augmented reality. Her career has harnessed the diverse fields of public art, academia, bush cuisine, tourism and business in an effort to build a rich platform which raises the profile of Melbourne’s First Peoples.

In this interactive discussion, we’ll explore Aunty Carolyn’s perspectives on what it means to be welcomed onto Country by First Nations People and the responsibilities to oneself, to each other and to our Earth that come with it. We’ll also spend time listening to the sacred Dhumbali (commitments) that have guided Melbourne’s First Peoples for millennia and how they can guide leaders in life and business, especially through the time of transition that we’re currently experiencing.

Come and join us at the fire!

The themes in this discussion draw on the cultural IP of the Boonwurrung people of the Kulin Nation in southeast Australia. This knowledge is shared for the purpose of creating greater self-awareness and is not to be shared publicly outside of the Fire Circle without the appropriate cultural permissions of N’arweet Carolyn Briggs and the Boonwurrung community. We ask you to please treat this knowledge as a gift and to listen with great Djilbruk / respect.

    About Us

The Fire Circle is a project that emerged in late 2020 in response to a growing cry for a different way, a way that is grounded in ancient wisdom, draws on the cultures and teachings of Indigenous traditions, and sees us working with deep humility, reverence and relationship with the Earth.

    Partner Project & Community Commitment
20% of ticket sales will go towards Elder Carolyn's nominated community regeneration project in recognition of the cultural IP that is being shared through this experience.

This is the Kummargii Yulendji/ Rising Knowledge Project which seeks to create cross-cultural education experiences which weave together Boonwurrung knowledge about caring for Country and western tools for regenerative living & working. Phase 1 of the project involves educational events and workshops for business and community leaders as well as school students. Phase 2 will involve the development of a cultural Elder App and provide an exciting First Nations perspective to familiar places in Melbourne.
