Event description

As leaders with diverse cultural backgrounds, how do we go about connecting with these Indigenous Elders, communities and knowledge? How can this be authentic, responsible and meaningful as we collectively strive towards a regenerative future?

For our next Fire Circle series, we’ll be featuring Elder Mac Macartney, an inspiring British man who has been learning from and working with First Nations people from over five countries over the last four decades. Elder Mac’s journey of tracing his own pre-Roman, British tribal roots is an excellent example of how we can find deeper connections to our Earth. He brings a wealth of knowledge and wisdom in bridging western and Indigenous worlds, including experience consulting for prominent organisations like Unilever and Procter & Gamble.

In this interactive, online gathering we’ll create a safe space for asking questions whether silly, wise or in between so that we can confront the very real challenges of cross-cultural collaboration. This can be considered as part of healing the wounds of colonisation and finding the unique place of Indigenous wisdom in our own lives and work.

Cultural Safety

The themes in this discussion draw on the Elder Mac's personal experiences learning from Indigenous Elders over many decades. We ask that you respect this knowledge and share with others based on his guidance during the event.

About Us

The Fire Circle is a project that emerged in late 2020 in response to a growing cry for a different way, a way that is grounded in ancient wisdom, draws on the cultures and teachings of Indigenous traditions, and sees us working with deep humility, reverence and relationship with the Earth.

Partner Project & Community Commitment
Embercombe is a very beautiful 50 acre valley on the edge of Dartmoor National Park in the UK. It is a place to seek deep connection with nature - wild nature around us, and wild nature within us. To this end, Embercombe offers various programmes, courses and events. Mac Macartney founded Embercombe in 1999 after a corporate client gifted him the money to purchase the land, and to honour the pledge he had made to his First Nations mentors - “to rekindle the Children’s Fire.” More info at: https://embercombe.org/

Elder Mac will kindly donating his fees for this event with a project that has been recommended by own own Elder Djapirri. This is still to be decided.
