Fireside: A Decolonised Gathering for Poetry & Storytelling
Event description
We gather together on the ancestral lands of the Kabi Kabi & Gubbi Gubbi people, acknowledging the many Elders that have come before us, walk among us and those yet to come, for a time of poetry and storytelling 'around the fire'. This Country holds their stories, and in no way do we attempt to diminish or silence these living stories.
Bring your heart, your ears and an offering of words to this all ages, decolonised space dedicated to amplifying the voices of those marginalised and disadvantaged as a result of colonisation and the Patriarchy.
As we sit in circle, you are invited to step into the centre to share, while those gathered bear witness to the flame that you are. Each person wanting to step into the circle is offered up to 5 mins of sharing time, with a special guest sharing each month for 20 mins. Children are welcomed and encouraged to share.
This is not a competition and shared pieces do not need to be memorised or polished.

First Nations folks are invited to attend at no financial cost.
$30* for waged folks
$22* for Black/POC/LGBTIQ+/Disabled
$20* for solo parents/pensioners
Children 0-10 don't need a paid ticket, but please book for them so we can know number of bodies in the space.
Donate to provide sponsorship for others and for our 1 free community ticket provided each month.
*All paid tickets are subject to an additional booking fee - this fee is redirected to support the education of Indigenous students
Location: Next Door creative studio, 3/50 Rene Street, Noosaville
This venue is wheelchair accessible with access to ground floor toilets as well.
WHY DECOLONISE:
Colonisation is deeply embedded in our society, and it's high time we created and curated spaces of empowerment for those negatively impacted by it.
There is great intention woven into the many aspects of this gathering, from language used in marketing, to the way the physical space is set up, to pricing of ticket, ages welcome, featured artists that are selected, etc.
YOUR HOST:
Lindsey Stillwell is a First Nations (US) visionary performing artist, pleasure activist and storyteller passionate about amplifying freedom, prosperity and self-expression. She is a queer parent on a mission to decolonise performing arts spaces, parenting, gender, sexuality & relationships, and the distribution of wealth. She weaves together ritual, poetry and embodiment in a way that has audiences and participants hungry for more. Lindsey is a trained trauma therapist, holistic healer and facilitator who loves to describe herself as 'stroft' - strong + soft, having built resilience through her own trauma journey, and yet remaining soft in vulnerability and open-heartedness.
