Event description

Join us for an evening with Dulkara Martig—adventurer, storyteller, women’s advocate, and wilderness soul—hosted by Rewild You podcast creator Hannah Rae.

This is the very first Fireside Session we’re trialling: a new format of live, intimate conversations with inspiring guests. If you love meaningful stories, big questions, and getting to know others in your community, this evening is for you.

About Dulkara

With an early childhood spent in Mount Cook Village and the tiny settlement of Roa (population 17) on the West Coast, it’s no surprise that Dulkara grew up feeling at home in wild places.

After several years of visiting Fiordland for summer packrafting adventures, she moved to Te Anau full-time in 2022—a shift that marked a new chapter: living in one place, working in an office role, and transitioning into motherhood.

Before settling in Te Anau, Dulkara spent over a decade working in the outdoor expedition industry and filling every spare moment with extended adventures—going 3.5 years without spending more than ten days in one place.

Some highlights from her journey include:

  • Multi-week expeditions in Alaska, the Nepali Himalaya, and Fiordland
  • An 80-day crossing of Nepal
  • Bikepacking Tour Te Waipounamu
  • GODZone Fiordland expedition race (2018)
  • Working in Botswana, the jungles of Borneo, Australia's outback, and Alaska’s grizzly country
  • An all-women traverse of New Zealand’s Southern Alps

Today, while balancing fulltime work, parenthood, and adventuring, Dulkara is passionate about creating inclusive environments that empower women—whether in the backcountry or the workplace. Her most recent project has been helping to establish a professional Women’s Network connecting over 400 women nationwide.

What to Expect

Dulkara is a brilliant, creative thinker whose stories and reflections never fail to crack open new ways of seeing the world.

Together, we’ll explore:

  • Being a woman in the outdoors and on long expeditions—the highs, lows, and everything in between
  • Unique journeys into motherhood that aren't often talked about
  • Balancing an adventurous life with the desire for roots and family
  • Creating environments that empower women—in the outdoors and in the workplace

You’re part of the conversation too.

When you register, you’ll have the opportunity to submit your question for Dulkara ahead of time. We’ll also open the floor for a relaxed live Q&A at the end—no question too small, too silly, or too out there.
