FireWISE Garden Workshop - Informative, interesting & delicious - Learn all about fire-resistant plants for your garden and enjoy Devonshire Tea
Event description
Bushfire risk is always on the radar here in The Great Southern of WA, however events over recent years have really demonstrated how real it is. Making your garden firewise will help mitigate your bushfire risk* and here is your opportunity to learn how to do it.
This is a 2.5 hour workshop that promises to be engaging, informative and delicious!
In this workshop you will learn about plant species:
- that are considered fire resistant, fire tolerant and/or have low flammability
- which are both fire resistant and biodiversity enhancing
- that I consider the winning 'trifecta' of plants - fire resistant, biodiversity enhancing AND edible!
You will also learn some great tips for designing a firewise garden, including:
- how to incorporate these plants in your existing garden
- inspiration for starting a new firewise garden
- landscaping ideas for reducing fire risk
A special part of this workshop will be a Devonshire Tea, homemade scones with jam and cream and your choice of tea or coffee. My (late) grandmother passed her family famous scone recipe to me and I feel it's time to start baking and sharing her scones again. That's how this offering of Devonshire Tea with a garden workshop came to be :)
Everyone will take home a gift - a seedling of a fire resistant plant species - for you to start or add to your firewise garden.
I hope you will all go home wiser and delighted with the information, the good company, your seedling gift and the Devonshire Tea!
I have studied a Diploma in Sustainable Living, majoring in the Science of Gardening, Sustainable Landscape Design and Living With Fire. I was placed on the University's Roll of Excellence in recognition of my studies. I have spent the last few years putting theory into practice in my own backyard and am passionate to share my knowledge with our community to help create some epic FireWise gardens. I am grateful to have the support of some wonderful people in the community including Don and Kaye Millar (former Blossoms Nursery owners) who have given this testimonial about my services: "With her comprehensive knowledge of local plants, edibles, natural systems and sustainability, engaging Elisha will be the best investment you make in your garden".
