Event description
Want to grow your own food but not sure where to start? This six-week course is designed to build your skills, confidence, and knowledge in growing seasonal vegetables — whether you’re working with a backyard, containers, or a small urban plot.
Led by an experienced tutor, each session combines practical demonstrations, home garden tasks, and expert advice on managing crops, pests, compost, and soil health.

Tutor Nicola Mears
Nicola is an Ōtautahi-based horticulturist with a background in sustainable agriculture, permaculture, and biodynamics. With roots in North Canterbury and international experience, including running an organic farm park in South America - she now manages the St Albans Uniting Parish Community Garden and teaches practical, climate-resilient food growing.
