Event description

Benalla Art Gallery continues its series of First Monday talks and welcomes Mark Galea as its inaugural speaker in the Gallery’s temporary Pop-Up home at 75 Bridge Street East. Melbourne-based Galea works across small and large scale projects, exploring the principles of movement and motion through sculpture, painting and installation. He has two works – a painting and a sculpture –  included in Reconfigured, the first exhibition in the Gallery’s temporary home.

About the artist

Having completed a Bachelor of Arts (Fine Arts), Victoria College, Prahran in 1990, Galea’s work has been exhibited widely both in Victoria and interstate, with key solo exhibitions including Colour by Numbers, Bendigo Art Gallery (2009); and Model, Australian Centre for Contemporary Art [ACCA] (2000). His work has been curated into group exhibitions at National Gallery of Victoria, Queensland Art Gallery, Heide Museum of Modern Art, Ian Potter Museum of Art, Tarrawarra Museum of Art, Mornington Peninsula Regional Gallery, McClelland Regional Gallery, RMIT Gallery, Monash University Museum of Art, Geelong Gallery (and tour venues nationally), and Swan Hill Regional Art Gallery, among others.

Many of his works are held in public and private collections across Australia, including National Gallery of Victoria, Ian Potter Museum of Art, Bendigo Art Gallery, Tarrawarra Museum of Art, Monash University Museum of Art, Monash Gallery of Art, Mornington Peninsula Regional Gallery, and Hamilton Art Gallery.
