Event description

Please note this event is autonomous and only for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Women & Gender Diverse People With Disabilities within Australia.

Hey you women & gender diverse mob with disabilities across the country!

Women With Disabilities Australia (WWDA), First Peoples Disability Network (FPDN) and the National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Women's Alliance (NATSIWA) wants to yarn with you over Zoom about disability.

Have your say at our yarning circle on Friday April 8 2022 and come tell us what's important and what needs to change for you as a disabled woman or gender diverse person! Our Zoom yarns will help WWDA set up a First Nations Advisory Group, and help WWDA, FPDN and NATSIWA know what’s important to be speaking up on. We won't tell anybody what you tell us.

Some of the things we might yarn about include isolation, violence, communication issues, mobility equipment, housing, justice, doctors and hospitals, alongside whatever you bring to the table.

Our yarning circle will be facilitated by First Nations staff with disabilities, and we'll have support available in case you need it. Auslan interpretation and captioning will be available, and we can also organise other support for you to join if you need it, such as a translator, support worker or access to the internet.

To compensate you for your time, we will pay you a $50 gift card. To ensure you have a feed on the night, we will also provide you with a $50 payment for dinner. This will be via an UberEats voucher, or a gift card to a supermarket like Coles or Woolworths.

If you have any questions, you can email Mali at project@wwda.org.au or Tess at tessm@wwda.org.au
