Environment Centre NT. the Beyond Gas Network and the Australian Conservation Foundation have teamed up to support a group of Territorians to bring an urgent message down south: The Territory is under threat from gas expansion like never before.
For over a decade, Territorians have led the fight against this destructive industry, but now Country, water, and our climate are at greater risk than ever.
Join us for a FREE powerful event featuring Traditional Owners who will share what these dangerous gas projects mean for their communities — and how you can stand in solidarity here in Victoria
PLUSÂ
- the powerful short movie Heart of Country which show how First Peoples are fighting the gas industry predations in WA, NSW and South West Victoria
- a moving short movie focussing on the NT First Nations -Â on how fracking is toxic to water, people and ecosystems.
🔥 Why it matters: Much of the NT is predicted to be unliveable before the end of the century due to climate impacts, and the Federal Government is considering a $1.9 billion gas hub in Darwin, while failing to stop fracking in the Beetaloo Basin. Victorians banned fracking because we know the dangers—now it's time to support communities in the NT who are fighting to do the same, and all First Nations peoples fighting fossil fuel industry predations across Australia.
Featuring:
- Mililma May, Danggalaba Kulumbirigin Tiwi community organizerÂ
- Josie Alec, proud Kuruma Marthudunera woman and ACF's First Nation's Lead
- Dr Monique Ryan, the Federal MP for Kooyong, who has spoken out in the Federal Parliament against fracking in the NT, Middle Arm (the $1.9 billion gas hub in Darwin), and Santos' Barossa gas project in the Timor Sea.
With stalls from local reconciliation and climate action groups like Reconciliation Stonnington, Boroondara Reconciliation Network, ACF Local Groups, Higgins Climate Action Network, Lighter Footprints, and Kooyong Climate Change Alliance.
RSVP and share to stand with our First Peoples who are fighting to protect our future from dangerous climate impacts and the gas industry's pillaging of country for profit.
HERE is a petition to Victorian Labor MPs asking them to take urgent action to halt fracking projects in the Northern Territory. PLEASE ADD YOUR NAME TO IT.Â
Please note that:
- tickets are free, but donations are welcome to offset the venue hire cost - there is no obligation to donate'
- by RSVPing for this event you may receive updates from Lighter Footprints, ACF Boroondara and a local reconciliation group about activities in your area and the campaign. You can unsubscribe to opt out at any time.

This event will take place on the stolen lands of the Wurundjeri Woiwurrung people of the Kulin Nation. We pay respects to their Elders past, present and emerging and acknowledge that sovereignty was never ceded. We acknowledge Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as the Traditional Custodians of the land, water and skies, and their ongoing resistance to the impacts of colonisation. There can be no climate justice without First Nations justice.
