Event description

Walking Box Ranch is open every first Saturday of the month for some volunteering followed by a tour and a special guest speaker or activity! Learn more about this special place and Avi Kwa Ame National Monument while also helping to maintain and preserve this historic cattle ranch and desert home of silent film stars Rex Bell & Clara Bow.

Join us as we:
  • Get the ranch ready for our upcoming bioblitz weekend by helping us with projects inside the house and on the ranch grounds.
  • Continue work in the Wee Thump Joshua Tree Wilderness to help set posts that will inform visitors and demarcate pull-out parking & camping areas while protecting the surrounding landscape. Volunteers should be prepared to do lifting, digging and moving of posts.
Volunteering Details:

Come in sturdy, closed-toed shoes, clothing that protects you from the sun and potentially pointy plant life, and bring a large water bottle and a picnic lunch. We'll have gloves and other protective gear, tools, beverages and snacks.

9:00-11:30AM - Groundskeeping & ranch activiities
9:00-12:00PM - Wee Thump Conservation Project
11:30AM-12:15 - Tour of the Walking Box Ranch house
