First Saturday @ WALKING BOX RANCH - Arts & Advocacy Day
Walking Box Ranch
searchlight, united states
Event description
Walking Box Ranch is open every first Saturday of the month for some volunteering followed by a tour and a special guest speaker or activity! Learn more about this special place and Avi Kwa Ame National Monument while also helping to maintain and preserve this historic cattle ranch and desert home of silent film stars Rex Bell & Clara Bow.
Join us as we celebrate Avi Kwa Ame National Monument through visual art, performance, history, and arts workshops, while discussing the importance of continuing to protect this beloved landscape for future generations. Learn about local plants while making cyanotype prints, discover the beauty and history behind the UNLV Walking Box Ranch Navajo rug collection, take a tour of the ranch house, and enjoy performances by Las Vegas artists Haide Calle, Keeva Lough, Ari Ramirez and Ali Fathollahi. Then get creative as we express our thoughts about Avi Kwa Ame to our representatives through individual and group projects.
Schedule:
- 10AM-12PM — Workshops and house tours
- 12PM-1:30PM — Picnic lunch (provided) and performances
- 1:30PM-3:30PM — Creative land advocacy projects
For the Wee Thump conservation project, meet at Walking Box Ranch at 9am and be prepared to volunteer until noon. Bring water, sturdy shoes, work gloves and snacks.
