First Thursdays: Botanical Weaving Workshop with Karen Rubado
Event description
Join us for First Thursdays in Te Hau Kapua - Devonport
This workshop is a 2-hour course designed to introduce you to frame weaving with dried flowers and leaves. With some basic tapestry weaving techniques you’ll be on your way to creating your own botanical textile masterpiece.Â
We’ll be using natural yarn (wool or cotton) to create the tapestry base (warp) and will then employ a tabby weave for the flowers and leaves. Frame looms, wool and flowers will be provided and you’ll be able to take your weaving home with you.
Tickets are $25 and cover all materials and refreshments courtesy of our hospitality partner Toi Toi Wines. This workshop is suitable for adults. Koha will be accepted upon entry.Â
About Karen Rubado
Karen Rubado's work with her loom challenges our emotional attachments to things, blurring the line between completed and incomplete, woven and unwoven. Her pieces capture a fleeting moment in time, reflecting the delicate balance between form and potential collapse, and speak to the indecisiveness and precariousness of the world.
Karen has exhibited throughout New Zealand and has a Master of Fine Arts from Elam School of Fine Arts, The University of Auckland. To see Karen’s artwork visit www.karenrubado.com
