About Gretchen Mawson
Gretchen Mawson is the new owner of Devonport Flowers. She brings 30 years of floristry experience to Te Hau Kapua (Devonport), having worked at some of Auckland’s top florists. As Senior Florist at Devonport Flowers for the last 5 years, an opportunity to own her own business in her home suburb of Devonport, where she has been part of the local community most of her life, was too good an opportunity to pass up.
Having always been a creative person with a love of nature and someone who loves working with her hands, falling into the job of floristry was a perfect fit. Designing and creating everything from large scale weddings and events to everyday bouquets and teaching workshops, Gretchen maintains her passion for flowers and the industry. This has overflowed into other areas such as pottery, creating the perfect vessels as well as growing her own flowers. Going forward with the business, Gretchen is committed to making the industry more sustainable, with new recycling initiatives and doing away with the use of floral foam. This is the technique that will be used in the workshop to create your own bespoke wreath.
