First Tuesday Club: Wesley Aird on Aboriginality

With interest in the Uluru Statement from the Heart growing and calls for an aboriginal voice to Parliament increasing, and a Big Dialogue on an indigenous topic in the planning, we are pleased to welcome Wesley Aird to the First Tuesday Club meeting on March 1st.
Wesley is a highly successful Queenslander. He is Director at the Centre for Indigenous Policy; General Manager at the Aboriginal Centre for Performing Arts, Director at Blaque Digital and a public intellectual with a long history of commentary on indigenous affairs in the Australian newspaper and ABC TV 's The Drum. He has written on the sustainability of aboriginal communities and has strong perhaps contrarian views on the importance of deprivation rather than race being the yardstick for determining assistance.
Wesley will discuss the topic of "Aboriginality" in what will be an informative, intriguing and perhaps provocative experience for some.
First Tuesday Club General
Light food and drinks available throughout around the big table. Arrive from 5.30pm to meet and catch up with TBD people. Guests are free to leave from 7pm but the discussion always continues. Usual location to be detailed on confirmation emails.
Attendance is normally limited to 14 people which is about the maximum for everyone to have a say and maintain a single discussion. Discussions are not recorded and of course The Brisbane Rule applies. First Tuesday provides a safe space for free speech from differing perspectives.
"Pay forward or what you can afford" to keep FTC self-sustaining and contributing a little to The Brisbane Dialogues, with student and young grad volunteers and interns (and valued sponsors) very welcome to enjoy a freebie.
