Fish for the Whenua (Waiuku Maara Kai Community Garden)
Event description
A workshop for Waiuku locals and anyone interested in learning more about using fish scraps in their garden
The Waiuku Maara Kai Community Garden is delighted to share strategies for incorporating fish scraps into an organic, Hua Parakore garden.
Thanks to Oceanz in Pukekohe, we are distributing fish frames and fish heads to locals to feed the soil.
In this workshop, we'll also share some favourite fish recipes, so we're feeding people as well as the planet.
Here's the menu for the morning:
Fish soup, and listen to Grace talk about her favourite ways to use fish.
Demonstration by Grace of fish fertiliser, fish emulsion, ways to use fish scraps to add nutrients to the soil.
Demosntration by Katrina of the Floral Compost Activator method for miminising odours and optimising the composting process.
Demonstration by Grace of DIY Bokashi.
Optional: there will be bags of frozen fish frames & heads & guts to take home for those who want them.
