Fit For Office: An Industry-Led Approach to Reducing Commercial Office Furniture Wastage
Description
Each year in Australia it is estimated that around 30,000 tonnes of commercial office furniture is discarded from offices. This furniture is usually in good condition and can be easily rehomed, remanufactured or recycled. Despite these potential recovery options, huge volumes of office furniture is disposed to landfill.
Join us for an upcoming webinar on 'Fit for Office': An Industry-Led Approach to Reducing Commercial Office Furniture Wastage. This webinar will provide an informative overview of the project, including a 45 min presentation, followed by a 15 min Q&A session.
Time: Thurs 29th July, 2021 at 10:30-11:30AM (AEST).
'Fit For Office' is a government-funded project set out to design a nationally accessible, voluntary product stewardship scheme for office furniture. The aim is for this scheme to be run by, and run for industry, to increase the recovery rate and divert thousands of tonnes of office furniture from landfill.
A consortium consisting of Edge Environment, the Global Product Stewardship Council (Global PSC) and Good Environmental Choice Australia (GECA) have been awarded funding under the National Product Stewardship Implementation Fund. The grant now provides the critical multi-year funding to describe the current market failure, identify the means for better recovery, and build the business case for stewardship.
Our goal is to see 'Fit for Office' established as an industry governed and accredited stewardship scheme by 2023 – giving office furniture reaching the end of its useable life a new, circular future. If you are a furniture manufacturer/importer, retailer, user, re-homer, or recycler of commercial office furniture we encourage you to attend.
The program and scheme design will be informed by expert reference groups, and we welcome your involvement. Your support along with key industry stakeholders, GECA and its licencees, will make our goal a reality.
This webinar will be recorded.
