    WOW! Shift is turning 5 and to celebrate we have invited 5 remarkable wāhine to share their inspirational stories of leadership, hauora (wellbeing), mental health, empowerment and community.

    Event Details

      Time:

      • 6:00 PM - Doors open (bubbles and canapés on arrival)
      • 6:30 PM - Mihi whakatau  II  Welcome speech (seated)
      • 7:00 PM - Storytellers
      • 8:15 PM - Whakawhanaungatanga  II  Connecting

      Dress code: Fancy Schmancy! Ensure you have deep pockets in your fancy attire so you can participate in our fabulous silent auction.

      Storytellers:

      Liv Rundle is a phenomenal young person who heads up Shift's mahi in Lower Hutt. Liv is passionate about creating meaningful connections with young people and helping them to discover their passions. She’s a fan of board games, baking and going out for brunch!

      Jan Logie 
      is a Green Party MP based in the Mana Electorate. Jan worked for Women’s Refuge, the New Zealand University Students’ Association, the YWCA and numerous other social causes before entering Parliament in 2011. Since then, she has been a champion for those affected by domestic and sexual abuse, and is Green Party spokesperson for Disability, ACC, Women, Te Tiriti o Waitangi, and Workplace Relations.

      Sharn Maree, Ngāpuhi me Te Whānau ā Apanui is a spoken word performer, presenter and weaver of words performing at the Opera House, Te Papa and Te Rauparaha Arena. Sharn has a background working with at-risk rangatahi, STEM education and Project Management in mātauranga Māori for both the Government and private sector. A keen advocate for mental health awareness and indigenous rights, she writes to empower others to speak their pono, their truth, and share their narratives.

      Gina Dao-McLay
      (they/she) is a student at Te Herenga Waka – Victoria University of Wellington. She’s of Pākehā and Vietnamese descent, born and raised here in Te Whanganui-a-Tara. With an interest in politics from a young age, they have always cared about the big issues affecting young people around the world and advocate for human rights for us all.

      Megan Compain is the ultimate team player and one of Whanganui’s greatest exports. She was the first and is still the only New Zealander to play in the USA Women's National Basketball Association, and is a two-time Olympian. She has worked with some of the biggest brands in global sport, including Adidas, the All Blacks and Black Ferns. She is now a Partner and Director of a sports marketing agency in Wellington focused on sports partnerships and women in sport advocacy. 

      Our storytellers have been selected as their mahi and values align to the type of programmes Shift co-designs and delivers alongside young women. They are:

      1. Just Shift It: co-designed, fun, social and free physical activity opportunities;
      2. LeadHERship: leadership mentoring with a focus on building confidence and capability;
      3. Shift your Mind: building young women’s self esteem, resilience and providing tools to address negative mental health and anxiety; and
      4. Te Tauoranga: connecting kōhine Māori with their culture, nature, outdoor recreation and hauora using Te Aō Maori practices and principles. 

      Ticket Price:

      • $120 - please note this is a FUNdraiser for The Shift Foundation and the revenue from all ticket sales will go back into supporting the mahi we do alongside young women to improve wellbeing.
