Description

Do you have a creek, river or watercourse running through your property and want to see it thrive?

Many landholders want to improve the health of their watercourses but aren't sure where to start, what activities are permitted or which management actions will have the best impact.

Join us for a practical workshop for landholders who want to better understand watercourse management and develop a plan for their own property.

The day will begin with a guided property walk, led by the host landholder and Landscapes Hills and Fleurieu staff. You'll see firsthand how different watercourse management approaches have been implemented over time and learn about:

  • Fencing waterways to exclude stock

  • Different types and causes of erosion

  • Native vegetation regeneration and revegetation

  • The link between paddock management and watercourse health

  • Local examples of watercourse improvement works

Hear directly from the host landholder about their journey, including how they have applied knowledge gained from previous workshops and utilised the Five Steps to a Thriving Watercourse guide to make positive changes on their property.

You'll also learn about Water Affecting Activity permits, including which activities may require approval and how to navigate the application process.

The workshop will conclude with an interactive planning session where participants will work through their own property scenarios. Attendees will receive an A3 property map to assist with planning and are encouraged to bring photographs of their watercourse for discussion. You will receive tailored advice and help to identify the next steps to support your watercourse management.

Tea/coffee and lunch provided. Please come prepared for a property walk with appropriate clothing and footwear.

This project is supported by the Australian Government through funding from the Natural Heritage Trust under the Climate-Smart Agriculture Program.
