Fix-It Fair

Ashburton Library and Keep Learning Mid Canterbury are teaming up to offer Ashburton's first Fix-It Fair on February First, 2025. 

Pop along to the library between 10am and 1pm where you'll find volunteers from local community groups able to fix your items or help you make a plan for where to get the item fixed if it can't be done there and then. 

• CanBead will be on hand with all the tools needed to fix jewellery. They can help with things like fixing clasps and shortening.
• Digital Waitaha will be there to fix gaps in your knowledge when it comes to working out how to use your phone, tablet or other digital device. They can't fix faulty devices but often problems are with the user not the device itself, so come along and get support and answers to your questions.
• Menzshed members can assess your items and show you what types of things they can fix down at the Menzshed, where they have all the equipment to fix almost anything! 
• Mid Canterbury TimeBank members will be available to a) offer simple repairs to household items - bring it with you and try your luck, b) mend or alter your clothing so you can get more years of wear out of it, e.g. fix missing buttons, tears, holes, hemming, c) troubleshoot your garden woes and d) fix problems with your bag, backpack or upholstery. 

Why attend a Fix it Fair? 

• reduce things being 'thrown away' into landfill
• save money and the earth's resources by getting things fixed instead of buying new
• learn about community groups
• learn skills of repair

The Fix it Fair is a free event but koha containers will be out so any costs can be covered through donations. You can 'get tickets' here to give us an idea of numbers but it's just a 'pop in' event - so feel free to just turn up on the day with your items that need fixing and see if we can help! 

The event will be held in the Ashburton Library from 10am - 1pm. See you on Saturday 1st February!
