Event description

We created the Asian Mental Health Bookclub as an opportunity to explore Asian American identity and mental health themes in community.

We will have a virtual meeting on the 2nd Tuesday of each month. For each book, there will be 2 meetings: the first meeting will entail a group discussion of the book, and the second meeting will consist of a conversation with the author of the book.

Upcoming Events:

*Content Warning: This book contains depictions of physical and emotional child abuse, domestic violence, and suicidal ideation.

Join us for a virtual event where we will be discussing Fixing Broken Mirrors. "Travel with Taesung as he shares his message of hope mingled with his pain as he remembers his father severely abusing both his mother and himself. His story exemplifies the courage and will of the human spirit to overcome the odds. It speaks to young adults who have gone through any sense of abuse and trauma along with parents who want to grapple with personal reflection and parenthood in a new way - understanding the perspective of how trauma can affect their children." The event will take place on Tue Oct 8 2024 at 5pm PST. Don't miss out on this opportunity to connect with other Asians/Asian Americans through the power of stories!

EVENT FAQ:

    Who is this group for?

    • This group is open to all those who identify as Asian & Asian American, ages 18+.

What type of book club vibes can I expect?

    • This book club will be more of a casual conversation about the book and how it can connect to our lives, rather than an in-depth literary discussion (though you're welcome to share your literary insights).

What will the event agenda involve?

    • For book discussion meetings, most of the meeting will involve breakout groups with instructions and questions provided by the facilitator. There will also be time for all attendees to converse together. For the author discussion, there will be an interview of the author and audience Q&A.

Can I join if I didn't finish the book?

    • Absolutely! While it would be helpful to read the book for a richer conversation, you can still participate without having done so.

Do I have to attend both sessions of a book, i.e. the group discussion AND the author's discussion?

    • Nope-feel free to come to either session, or both!

    Does this event cost money?

    • This event is free!
