Event description

Hurihanga is a stunning, large-scale Matariki projection artwork lighting up the front of Christ Church Cathedral every night from 6–10pm until 9 July.

Created by Ngāi Tahu artist Sam Emerson and produced by Offline Collective in collaboration with Flare Ōtautahi and the Christ Church Cathedral Reinstatement Project, Hurihanga tells a uniquely Māori story of remembrance, renewal, and connection to the environment — all through light, sound, and motion.

This free, family-friendly experience is perfect for the school holidays and brings one of the city’s most iconic buildings to life. Whether you're a local or visiting Ōtautahi, come and experience this powerful celebration of Matariki in the heart of the city.
