Event description
FlexIT online training is suitable for Credentialled Diabetes Educators and Dietitians who work with people with type 1 diabetes.
The FlexIT program and principles reflect best practice for the management of type 1 diabetes and are readily utilised by experienced clinicians at the Baker Institute.
The interactive online two- day program will focus on teaching flexible insulin therapy principles for use with clients in individual consultations.
The optional third day of this program will focus on providing the skills and teaching resources to become an accredited FlexIT group program facilitator, and obtain a licence to deliver the Baker FlexIT group in your setting.
Topics will include:
- How to calculate, use and adjust insulin to carbohydrate ratios and insulin sensitivity factors in relation to diet, exercise and blood glucose levels (BGL)
- Advanced carbohydrate counting including the use of current apps and resources
- Identification and management of patterns of hypoglycemia and hyperglycemia
- Case study analysis of example FlexIT BGL and food diaries.
For APDs: This program can be considered for up to 5 professional development hours per day of the program, provided it is relevant to your DA learning goals.
Diabetes Educators are eligible to claim 14 CPD points towards credentialing for attending this program.
