FLINT Auckland : Micro Hackathon 2025
Event description
Join us on Wednesday 17th September, 2025 as we come together for an engaging and fun-filled “Micro Hackathon” hosted by our FLINT Auckland team alongside our friends at HarnexAI. This year, we are showcasing how AI can empower anyone to bring their ideas to life through “vibe coding” - using everyday language to instruct AI tools to do the programming for you!
You need no experience at using AI tools, computer programming, or technical skills. We will show you how anyone can write code using prompt engineering and the help of AI, you just need an idea you want to bring to life!
FLINT x HarnexAI - “App Your Life”
This year we are partnering with HarnexAI to showcase how powerful AI can be when used to its full potential. We want to bridge the gap between the everyday user and agentive AI, empowering our FLINT community to give vibe-coding a try for themselves.
Our challenge this year is to: “App Your Life”
We want you to create a tech solution to solve an oddly specific personal problem from the mildly annoying to the deeply life-changing. Whether it be a gadget that notifies you to bring you washing in before it’s due to start raining, an app that sends you reminders based on your physical location, or a design to help you focus on your personal sustainability goals - you can create it with vibe-coding!
Derrick Edward and Misha Afon from HarnexAI will teach you how to create a working prototype of your App idea using prompt-engineering platforms, like Lovable. Vibe-coding allows non-technical users to create real code and working products, so this is your opportunity to let your imagination run wild and create something amazing with AI!
What is a Hackathon?
A hackathon is an innovation workshop for creating cool stuff with tech! You will work in teams, brainstorm ideas, write code, and build a prototype to solve problems or make something new. Our FLINT micro-hackathons are 4 hours long, including lots of time to network and connect with likeminded individuals that attend the event. You will have approx. 2 hours working in your team to create your tech solution then present to our panel of judges.
You will be split into random teams upon arrival and work together to create one App idea. This is a great way to meet like-minded people across a wide range of tech industries!
We encourage you to be in teams of people you may not have met before, however, if you want to work with your friends/colleagues let us know on the day and we can allocate you in teams together.
What to Bring:
You will need to Bring Your Own Device, and don’t forget a charger! Ideally each team will have one BYOD that can access the AI platforms via Desktop Web view and can connect to a screen via HDMI/USB-C to present your App to the judges. If you don’t have a compatible device, we will make sure you are partnered in a group that does!
Food and Drink: We will be providing some drinks and snacks throughout the night to keep you fueled during the evening! Please bring your reusable water bottle to keep you hydrated.
Let us know in the ticket notes if you have any dietary requirements or restrictions.
Expected Outcomes
At the end of the hackathon, you'll present your App to a panel of judges. This is a great chance to share what you've built and get valuable feedback on your idea, its design, and how well it works. You’ll have the opportunity to win prizes and gain recognition. There will be a chance to continue networking and connect with your new friends after the hackathon, we encourage you to stay and connect with others at the event to grow your network!
This is your chance to dive into new technologies, boost your skills in cutting-edge AI technology, and expand your professional network by connecting with mentors, industry experts, other participants, and potential employers or business partners.
Grab your ticket today! It's FREE for FLINT members (see below how to join). We look forward to welcoming you!
Please note that for this event it is limited to 30 individuals who are FLINT members within the general demographic for the programme.
