Looking for a fun and meaningful school holiday activity?

Join us for a special Matariki-themed Flood-Ready Treasure Hunt as we explore the beautiful waterways of Te Auaunga / Oakley Creek and discover how we can build flood resilience together.

Participants will be divided into teams named after the nine stars of Matariki, working together to solve clues, complete challenges, and hunt for hidden treasures along the way. Through this guided treasure hunt and nature walk, we’ll learn how water moves through our neighbourhood, identify areas that may be vulnerable to flooding, and explore practical ways we can prepare for and reduce flood risks.

Along the way, we’ll:

🔍 Team up as Matariki star groups to hunt for treasure and complete challenges
🌟 Learn about the nine stars of Matariki and their connection to the natural world
🌧️ Discuss past flood experiences and what we can learn from them
🗺️ Identify flood-prone areas in our community
🌱 Explore nature-based solutions that help manage stormwater and reduce flooding
🏡 Learn simple actions households can take to stay safe and prepared

This event is delivered by Earth Action Trust in collaboration with Auckland Council, Urban Ark, and Friends of Oakley Creek.

Who can attend?

This event is suitable for the whole family. Children must be accompanied and supervised by an adult.

The treasure hunt activities are best suited for children aged 8–15 years, but younger children are welcome to join and can team up with older participants.

This is a relaxed, educational, and engaging opportunity to connect with nature, celebrate Matariki, learn about flood preparedness, and meet others in your community.

Please register every person attending, including all children.

When registering children, don’t forget to enter their age so we can prepare age-appropriate activities and small gifts.
