Description
Roll for a profession and a plant, then fuse them into one original character. Students will use shape language, costuming, posing, and prop design to make their character’s identity readable at a glance. Over three days, they’ll build from an initial concept to a finished illustration, then showcase their work at the end of camp.
This group fall break art camp is designed to strengthen creative problem-solving through drawing and character design. No advanced art experience is required. Beginners are welcome. The goal isn’t to draw like the instructor. It’s to explore your own style, strengthen your design choices, and leave with a character that feels yours.
Meet us in The Classroom in the South Huntsville Library at the Sandra Moon complex. Three hour afternoon instruction for three days. Each students gets their own curated take-home art kit!
[The HMCPL does not sponsor this event.]

FAQs
- Is this a step-by-step “draw exactly like the instructor” class?
No. Students will be taught character-design principles, techniques, and problem-solving approaches, but they are encouraged to make their own artistic choices and develop their own style.
- What happens if my student misses one of the three days?
The camp builds progressively from concept to final illustration, so missed sessions are not made up. If a student misses part of camp, the instructor will help them rejoin the project as reasonably as possible when they return.
- Can my student attend only one day instead of the full camp?
Possibly. Single-day drop-in spots may be released after full-camp registration closes, depending on remaining capacity. Drop-in availability is not guaranteed.
- What should my student bring with them?
Required art materials are provided. Students may bring a preferred sketchbook or personal drawing tools if they like, along with a closed water bottle and any permitted snack.
