Flowing2Ways - a movement & vocal improv playshop

Flowing2Ways promises an extraordinary evening of immersion in improvisation with McCadden of Honey Sweet Harmony and David Budd, The Artful Drummer. The nature neighborhood in which we play, along with vernacular music and dance traditions from around the world and the ancestral cultures of session participants, inspire vocal, percussive, and movement improv. Flowing2Ways is a form of jam session, bringing the vernacular music and dance of this place and time into form, building community through skillful improvised sound and movement.

The Mahicannituck River (The River That Flows Two Ways, aka the "Hudson") is an estuary, an ever-present creator of sound and movement. An estuary is a space where different ecosystems overlap, where freshwater from streams and rivers meet and mix with salt water from the sea. The resulting mix makes the estuary nutrient-rich, a highly generative natural habitat.

Music and Dance are two ways that humans give body and voice to our innate creativity and connect with each other; two regenerative practices that can meet, embrace diversity, and mix to enliven participants and extend that liveliness into their community.

McCadden and David Budd guide participants in a collective flow of sound and movement, cultivating the skill and spirit of improvisation in a regenerative timespace for everyone who seeks to connect more deeply with their innate creativity and nature neighborhood.

Flowing2Ways is sourced from diverse lineages, including renowned teacher/vocal activists Bobby McFerrin, Debbie Friedman, Rhiannon, Ysaye Barnwell, and Melanie DeMore, as well as movement/dance techniques such as Viewpoints, Contact Improv, Suzuki, and Michael Chekov Technique.

Our intention is to share the medicine of our creations with the land, the waters, and any beloved beings in need. 

All present support the collective equally - "all flourishing is mutual!" These sessions are for dancers, movers, vocalists, musicians, artists of all forms, and ANYONE who seeks to connect with their innate creativity. “All who long to be seen, to be heard, to belong, to contribute, and to feel valued are encouraged to attend,” whatever your level of confidence, your past experiences with singing and dancing. Honey Sweet Harmony co-founder, creativity-catalyst, and performing/healing artist, McCadden facilitates community-weaving experiences rooted in remembering our ancestors’ regenerative ways of being part of nature. As a Fulbright Fellow (University of Chicago), ki*** focused on theatre and ritual. Ki offers private eco-spiritual mentoring / healing sessions as well as public playshops.

David Budd, The Artful Drummer is a percussionist / visual artist / poet / gardener who fosters creative expression, growth and resiliency in those he mentors. Having trained extensively with renowned drummer/historian Layne Redmond, he blends traditions of the ancient Mediterranean world, Brazil, West Africa, Latin music, Jazz, Rock, Funk, Reggae, and Zydeco.
