MXstore is proud to present Foam and Loam 2025, hosted by surfing legend and dirt bike fanatic Julian Wilson at Newcastle's infamous South Bar Beach and Maitland District Motocross Track on the 22nd and 23rd of February, 2025!


This is an invitation to riders who love surfing and moto to gather a team of 4 mates for a weekend of fun.  

WHAT IS FOAM AND LOAM?

A team-based event that combines surf and moto competitions, the joint results from the track and waves will crown the winners.

Newcastle's South Bar Beach and Maitland District MCC

HOW IT WORKS 

  • This event takes place over two days, all in the name of fun. 
  • Surf - Tag Team Challenge, all teams surf 2 rounds
  • Moto - Team Relay Races, 2x 1.5 hour races on a track that blends MX and enduro 
  • Combined results from the surf and moto segments will decide the overall class results.


WHO CAN COMPETE? 

  • A strictly limited number of 40 teams  
  • All Teams must consist of 4 people
  • Participants must be 16 or older 

SCHEDULE 

Saturday

  • 6:00am - 7:30am Sign on at Bar Beach, Newcastle's South Bar Beach  
  • 7:30am - 4:00pm Beach Heats x 2 Rounds 
  • 4:00 Early Sign on and camping @ Maitland DMCC  

Sunday

  • 6:00am - 7:30am Sign on at Track  
  • 7:30am - 8:00am Rider briefing and team update
  • 8:00 - 12pm -  Practice sessions and MX Relay Races 
  • 12:30pm Presentations
  • 1:00-3:00pm - Free Ride Practice Sessions for Participants

All participants will agree to sign Surfing Australia Waivers and Supplementary Regulations permitted by Motorcycling Australia's sanctioning body MNSW. 

Surfing Australia insurance is included within the entry fee, however any participants that do not hold a current Motorcycling Australia Annual Licence at the time of the event will need to register and purchase a One Event Competition Licence (OECL)


SURF FORMAT

  • There will be 2 rounds of tag team heats
  • Each team member can surf one or two waves, and the highest wave score is kept.
  • Only one wave from each team member is counted (total 4 wave combination) 
  • Heats are 30min each, all teammates need to surf at least one wave and be back on the beach before the end of the heat or the team will be penalised 5 points. 
  • One surfer is nominated as the “Power Surfer” where their best score is doubled. 
  • All teams surf both rounds and combined scores equals the overall placings. 

MOTO FORMAT

  • Teams will complete two 1.5-hour relay-style races, the team to complete the most laps in the shortest time wins.
  • The Maitland District MCC are designing an awesome track that incorporates a mix of MX and Enduro, approx laps will be 8min
  • All team members must complete at least 1 full lap of the track per race
  • There will be a break between races for teams to refuel, repair, and strategise for the next race.
  • The track will be suitable for C-class riders and above. 


RESULTS

  • Combined placings from the surf and moto segments equal overall class results
  • Trophy presentation will proceed trackside after racing concludes

    • Next Gen (all riders under 25, as of the event date)
    • Open (general team entry) 
    • Vets (all riders over 35, as of the event date)
    • Mixed (at least one female rider)
    • Women (all female riders) 


    WHAT INFO DO WE NEED TO ENTER? 

    • Class (*minimum of 3 entries required per division)

    • Do you have a current annual MA Licence? Riders without an MA licence will need to purchase a One Event Competition Licence for approx $84 (OECL) directly through Ridernet, link will be sent before the event. 
    • Do you have Ambulance Cover? (It is the rider’s responsibility to have current ambulance coverage to ride the event.)
    • T-Shirt size (for official Foam and Loam event T-Shirt)
      • Team’s emergency contact name and mobile number 
      • Do your team members agree to event terms and conditions and supplementary regulations? Team members will be required to sign event waivers at the event. 
      • Early Bird Tickets are $880 for a team of 4 + booking fee and OECLs, early bird tickets available until Feb 1st unless sold out prior.


      HOW MUCH?

      EARLY BIRD SPECIAL: $220 per rider, total $880 per team + Booking Fee

      Bookings are to be made as a team.  

      Plus, Motorcycling Australia One Event Competition Licence "OECL" (riders without an annual MA licence, will need to pay for their own OECL direct via Motorcycling Australia's Ridernet website before the event, link to be sent direct to participants)
