Event description

Join Valerie Lang in a series of four workshops throughout 2025. The first workshop will be held on Sunday May 18th3.00pm to 4.30pm at Zenith Music in Claremont.

Workshop 1: 

Practical tips and tricks for intermediate pianists: Developing technical skills whilst exploring a variety of repertoire. Delve into some traditional examination repertoire as well as some more eclectic piano pieces to assist with developing technique in intermediate piano students. Bring your AMEB Technical Workbooks if you have them. Handouts with excerpts will be provided and there will be some opportunity for some Q & A.

About Valerie Lang:

Valerie Lang is a well-known music educator, AMEB examiner and is a regular adjudicator at various music festivals and competitions in WA. She is a specialist in piano pedagogy having received her Bachelor’s degree in Performance and Teaching (1980s) and Master of Music Education (early 2000s) from the University of Western Australia. Valerie has a philosophy of lifelong learning andhas taken the opportunity to expand her musical knowledge by exploring fortepiano performance techniques and 18thCentury performance practices in The Netherlands with Bart Van Oort, and with Geoffrey Lancaster in Perth, WA. 

Valerie has also worked as a music specialist at Perth College for nearly 20 years, teaching music classes from Kindergarten to Year 12, conducting choirs, teaching piano andaccompanying instrumental and vocal students. Valerie has attended may professional learning courses including Kodaly education levels which she applied to her school lessons and piano lessons. Valerie also has an interest in ‘music and well-being’; she has observed community choirs in the UK andfollowed this up with facilitating singing groups in aged-care facilities in WA. Valerie also has experience with music administration and is the former Academic Development Officer at the AMEB (WA). 

Currently, Valerie has a vibrant piano studio where she has nurtured many students 

through their school musical journeys as well as AMEB grades and diplomas.  

Valerie has also mentored many emerging and experienced piano teachers, assisting to develop their own musical and performance skills and working on specific elements of piano pedagogy. Valerie enjoys teaching students of all ages and offers face-to-face and online lessons.
