FOLLIES FOR TWO: madrigals and folk in duo

FOLLIES FOR TWO is an exciting journey through all kinds of song and dance in duo forms, highlighting the diversity and virtuosity of both the violin and the viola. Stylised folk music from around the world - Hungary, Finland, and Norway - mixes with baroque lamentations from England and culminates in Martinu’s masterful 3 Madrigals, which are inspired both by English polyphony and by Bohemian and Moravian folk music. Following this, Kaija Saariaho’s haunting Aure is surrounded by the resonance of a slow-dancing Sarabande - first the inspiration, from Handel, then the fiery and virtuosic Sarabande con variazioni from Johan Halvorsen.
