Follow Your Waste Tour - FOGO (food and garden organics)
Event description
Join City of Stonnington's waste expert on a guided tour to learn how the contents of your food and green waste (FOGO) bin become compost and growing medium.
Meeting at Central Park, travel with us on the community bus to Bio Gro's Dandenong facility, the first step to turn organic waste to compost. Enjoy a guided tour of the facility and learn about the impact of contamination on the process. After time for a light lunch (catered), return to Central Park to meet a City of Stonnington gardener and learn how compost is helping our parks to flourish.
Ligh refreshments, tea and coffee will be provided.
Please bring a packed lunch and water bottle. Please avoid bringing a large bag or valuables on the tour.
Important notes
As we will visit a working site, all attendees must:
- Be 18 years or above
- Be able to independently navigate stairs and walkways
- Be able to hear verbal instructions in a noisy environment
- Wear closed toe, flat shoes and long pants
- Be willing to wear provided protective equipment (high-vis vest, safety goggle, mask, safety helmet)
- Be willing to follow any instructions by staff
- Be aware the site is dusty, noisy and walkways may not be clear
Program:
10:45am – meet central park and travel to Van Schaik's Bio Gro, Dandenong South by Community Bus, departure by 11am.
Tour the site and have time to eat lunch (own) and enjoy a cup of tea.
2pm - Return to Central park by Community Bus and enjoy a short tour
2:30pm - Finish at Central Park.

Follow Your Waste – Organics Tour is a free tour offered for residents to learn more about what happens to their organics after they are collected by the waste truck. Council will collect the following Personal Information to administer the program: your name, your postcode, your email address, mobile number, confirmation you are 18 years or over, dietary requirements and certain mobility data (Health and Personal Information).
Your Personal Information will be used for the following primary purposes:
To register you to attend the event
To contact you with information about the event
To contact you about future Follow Your Waste Tours, if you register to the waitlist
To facilitate an experience survey
To report on the outcomes of the Program (your Personal Information will be de-identified before circulation and aggregate data will be used
To determine whether you are eligible to register and/or attend all or part of the activities planned on the day
Your Health and Personal Information will not be shared with any external third parties. If you do not provide your Personal Information you will not be eligible to participate in the Program.
