Event description

Food freedom
Tuesday October 27, 6-7:30pm, online via Zoom
Hear a farmer's perspective on local food sustainability from from Lucy Dodd of Lowan Park produce.
Our small-scale farmers are poorly paid, yet they are the backbone of the country - how did this come about? Learn about how to support local food now and care for the land for future generations of famers.

Farming is the ultimate sustainability job’ says Lucy, ‘feeding our communities with good nutritious food in a way that enables us to keep doing it for generations to come is one of the most important jobs out there.’

About Lucy:

I’m a fourth generation farmer at Bordertown in the South East and I want to make sure my family can continue to farm for the next 100 years. This means that we value and practice sustainable, ethical farming practices that look after our land and soil. We grow pasture raised chicken because it helps us to fertilise our grass, it benefits the environment, and it helps us to create a connection between the families that buy our food and the farmer who they buy it from.

I’m passionate about creating and sustaining thriving regional communities through sustainable agriculture and connecting consumers with the farmers that buy their food.

I love the connection I have with my customers. They feel like they are supporting someone local, a fresh farmer, and appreciate the additional effort and care required to raise chicken in an ethical, stress free manner that also has positive environmental benefits.

I returned to the family farm after 15 years in Sustainability and Environment corporate and project management roles because of my love of the land and a belief that farming with regenerative principles can provide real, practical solutions to some of our global climate change issues.
